Narayana Vaidyer's Ayurveda Chikilsalayam

Narayana Vaidyer’s Ayurveda Chikitsalayam was established by Late Narayana Vaidyer in 1930. It is now in its third generation of existence.

Narayana Vaidyer hails from an Ayurvedic Family. His father Sri. Chathu Vaidyer was an eminent Ayurvedic physician at that time. He used to treat patients by visiting their homes. Chathu Vaidyer sent Narayana Vaidyer to Arya Vaidya sala kottakkal for his Ayurvedic education. He acquired the degree of Arya Vaidyan from Kottakkal with honors. After his education Narayana Vaidyer felt the need for establishing a vaidya sala to treat patients as well as manufacturing medicines in scientific way. The institution was set up with the help of eminent personalities of that time especially from “Kenath” family from the Kollengode Rajavamsam.

Narayana Vaidyer was a scholar in the field of Ayurveda as well as Jyothisha (astrology) soon his fame and glory spread to various parts of Tamilnadu and Kerala. He was the royal Physician to Kollengode, Palakkad and Kochi Raja vamsam. He was a great visionary also. He rendered help in establishing Educational institutions in Chitilanchery. He died suddenly at the age of 61.

After his death the institution was run by his second son Dr. A.N. UNNIKRISHNAN who was also a student of Arya Vaidya sala, Kottakkal and his brother’s son Dr. A.N. SETHUMADHAVAN who had his degree of L.I.M from Madras (Chennai). During this period the I.P section was expanded. After Dr. Unnikrishnan’s death, the institution was headed by his 4th son Dr. A.N. KUNHIKANNAN who had his Ayurvedic Degree of D.A.M from Govt. Ayurveda college, Trivandrum Dr. A.N. KUNHIKANNAN along with Dr. A.N. SETHUMADHAVAN spread the glory of the institution far and wide. They made the institution in the current form.

Since their Death the institution is its third generation of existence. The institution now has Dr. A.K. Mahesh BAMS MD(Ay) S/O Dr. A.N. KUNHIKANNAN & Dr. Radha Ramadas W/O Dr. U. Ramdas who is S/o Dr. A.N. UNNIKRISHNAN as chief Physicians.

Currently the institution is run as Partnership Firm among the family members of Narayana Vaidyer. The Partners are P. SUBHASHINI w/o Late Dr. A.N. KUNHIAKANNAN, A.N. SWAMINATHAN S/O. Late Narayana Vaidyer, P. SUNDARI UNNIKRISHNAN W/O Late Dr. A.N. UNNIKRISHNAN, A.N. INDIRA DEVI D/O Narayana Vaidyer, P. USHA D/O Dr. A.N. Parameshwaran, with Smt. SUBHASHINI as Managing Partner.
