Ayurveda is a complete life Science. The word Ayurveda is a combination of two words Ayur & Veda. Veda is derived from Sanskrit word ‘vid’ meaning 'Jnane' (knowledge). 'Ayu’ can be defined as unified state of Physical body, cognitive organs (indriyas) mind & soul. Therefore Ayur signifies a living human being
The aim of Ayurveda is two fold
1. Maintenance of health in a healthy person and
2. Relief from disease in a patient.
Healthy man is termed ‘Swastha’ in Ayurveda to maintain health in a ‘Swastha’ various regimens has been advised namely Dinacharya, Rithucharya etc. Description of Foods and Beverages which are ideal for keeping health, and also Foods and Beverages which are harmful for the body are also mentioned in Ayurveda.
For relief from diseases various medicines and procedures are explained. These medicines and procedures bring the diseased into swastha by pacification of ThriDhoshas and by purifying the body from toxins
Pancha Karma or 5 Karmas is a very popular word now. It is even used as a synonym to Ayurveda. Actually it is 5 purifactory methods which help the body to purify from toxins. They are
Vamana: vomiting induced by drugs.
Virechana: purgation induced by drugs
Nasyam: Nasal Medication
Anu Vasanam: Enema using Medicated oils
Nirooham: Medicated Enema
Toxic substances are accumulated in the body due to metabolic activities, due to changes in climate and due to unhealthy dietary and physical regiments. These toxins when accumulated in the body disrupts the normal functioning of the body. Removing of such toxins is the main procedure to keep a person healthy. Pancha Karmas removes the accumulated toxins and keeps the person healthy. |
